Why Girls have Heightened Sense of Smell during Pregnancy

Hormonal changes in pregnancy can lead to changes in the sense of smell. According to research, the majority of pregnant women experience a heightened sense of smell in the first trimester of pregnancy. People who experience hyperosmia during pregnancy may also experience increased nausea and vomiting.

What causes it?

As is the case for most of the odd, unintuitive symptoms of pregnancy, your hormones are to blame. Though progesterone is usually the culprit, for this particular symptom, estrogen is the one that makes your nose super-responsive.

Why do I smell so bad during pregnancy?

Increased quantities of the hormone estradiol are what heightens your sense of smell, and it's what makes your body produce a strong smell. The main areas affected are your genitals and armpits. That could be why you feel offended by your own body odor.
